Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums – Week 2

For the decade of the 2020’s, I plan on listening to approximately one album per week from Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. I will be posting my brief thoughts on each album here.

#499 – Live in Cook County Jail by B.B. King

ABC, 1971

I’ve never been a blues guy. There are just a few genres that rub me wrong, especially the ones that lean on a certain set of chord progressions used over and over. But darned if B.B. King isn’t genuinely blues’ best, and this live set is a sparkling documentation of his command over his genre, his guitar, and his audience. Even for a non-fan like me, this album is a thoroughly entertaining experience that still sounds great, nearly fifty years later.

Author’s Note: The reason I created this website and write these articles stems from my belief that artists should support other artists, in the same way that art inspires art. My debut album Unfall is out now, and I’d love for you to hear it.
