In the third song commentary episode of the Clubcast, you will get to hear a sneak peek of the upcoming Club-exclusive single titled “Bluing.” As of writing this (on June 4, 2024), I have very nearly completed the April and May songs for the Club. Writing and recording these two songs at the same time ended up being fortuitous, as they became increasingly interconnected as I got deeper into the lyrics and arrangements. So this episode will be a brief introduction to “Bluing,” and next week’s episode will feature a deeper commentary on both songs plus an exploration of the musical and lyrical ways that they function as a thematic pair. (Both songs will be released in full before next week’s podcast episode is released.) Because the recorded version of “Bluing” is not yet completed, this episode will end with a live performance which was recorded while the song was being written and improvised, as part of a YouTube video series titled You Have Until Lunch, where artists are tasked with the challenge of filming themselves while attempting to write a brand new song from scratch in the span on only thirty minutes.

I’m writing this article as a way to explain why I’m releasing so much music, to explore whether it’s plausible for a songwriter to write this much new material on such a prolific basis, and whether the concept of “too much music” is fairly, evenly applied across all artists.
