Close friend and musical confidant Kevin Morris (aka The Universal Donor aka The Professional Third Wheel) joins the Clubcast this week to discuss the album that got Kevin into my beloved emo scene and my favorite genre of music (post-hardcore) — that album being Hawthorne Heights’ debut The Silence in Black and White, which features the ubiquitous emo anthem “Ohio is For Lovers.” Kevin is an extremely thoughtful and creative individual, and you can find his work across literature, music, and podcasts. His novel The Many Phases of Lily Andrews can be purchased on Amazon or read through Kindle Unlimited. His podcast series Observations of a Professional Third Wheel (about singleness and about single people maintaining active, healthy friendships with married couples and parents) can be found wherever you stream your podcasts; the series most recently dove into the topic of divorce, meanwhile you can find a conversation with me and my wife Paige on episode 2 (from October 2023). Kevin has released some music under his name but primarily releases music under the moniker The Universal Donor, including the song covered in this episode, which features vocals from me and Paige, titled “With Wires and Fingers Crossed.” You can find his music across all streaming platforms, including Spotify and Bandcamp.

Feel free to ask for help if you’re having any trouble adding a custom RSS feed to your podcast app — just let me know what app you’re using.)

You can also “watch” the episode here or download the mp3 file below, too! If there’s another way of delivering these episodes to you that you would find helpful, please let me know in the comments below. And don’t forget to brainstorm what music you’ll want to talk about on your own episode!

Why Do You Release So Much Music?

I’m writing this article as a way to explain why I’m releasing so much music, to explore whether it’s plausible for a songwriter to write this much new material on such a prolific basis, and whether the concept of “too much music” is fairly, evenly applied across all artists.
